Guided Retreat: Basic Meditations for a Happy Life, Wed., January 2nd – Sat., January 5th

These meditations are the building blocks of a method taught by Buddha for eliminating unhappiness in our mind and increasing our capacity for love and compassion.

Guided Retreat on Basic Meditations for a Happy Life
A Lamrim Retreat in 14 sessions from How to Understand the Mind

As we become familiar with these meditations, our mind becomes stronger and experiences longer and longer periods of peace and happiness. The meditations are organized in a sequence so that as we gain more understanding of the first one, it helps us to gain more understanding of the next one. If we keep meditating on these and putting them into practice, eventually we can attain freedom from suffering and the lasting peace of a completely pure mind. This retreat guides the meditations that result in our determination to become a Bodhisattva (a person who has generated the wish to attain enlightenment for the benefit of all living beings), and so it prepares us to receive the Bodhisattva Vows (which will be offered Saturday, January 5th at 3pm).

All sessions are guided, are 1 hour long, and include some short chanted prayers for meditation. The meditations on the Lamrim Stages of the Path to Enlightenment in How to Understand the Mind will be our reference.
