Tuesdays are a very special day at KMC Maryland’s Annapolis branch class in West Annapolis. There’s a morning and an evening class that include both meditation and teachings on how to develop and maintain happiness and peace of mind.

Lunchtime Meditation is a half an hour guided meditation class that is suitable for anyone. It’s the perfect way to let the stress and pressure of your day melt away so you can return from your lunch hour feeling refreshed and nourished. The teacher will briefly instruct on the steps of meditation and then introduce a meditation topic; you then have plenty of quiet time to practice the process of meditation and improve your ability to stay focused on your meditation object.

The morning and afternoon classes are taught by KMC Maryland’s resident teacher, Gen Kelsang Chogden, a Western Buddhist nun who has been practicing meditation for over 20 years.

The evening class is taught by Tracey Van Gundy,
a lay teacher who has been practicing Kadam Dharma
since 2009 and teaching it since 2011.

The environment is peaceful, warm and friendly and everyone is welcome! There’s plenty of parking in a large parking lot. And inside there’s a bookstore, a lovely Buddha statue, and always tea or other refreshments.

No pre-registration required. Just drop in!

10:30am & 7pm CLASS TOPICS:

Dealing with Difficult Situations

If we learn to accept unavoidable suffering, unhappy thoughts will never arise to disturb us. There are many difficult and unpleasant circumstances that we cannot avoid, but we can certainly avoid the unhappiness and anger these circumstances normally provoke in us. It is these habitual reactions to hardship, rather than the hardship itself, that disturb our day-to-day peace of mind, as well as our spiritual practice. When we learn to accept difficult circumstances patiently, the real problem disappears.

Victory Over Negative Self

So often we are our own worst critic, and this also causes us to judge others in a harsh way.  When we focus on finding faults in ourself and others we are creating and fostering unpleasant feelings in our mind, and thus we feel annoyed, depressed, anxious and irritated with the world, and create a self image of being a failure.  Buddha explains how we can stop these bad habits, and substitute ways of thinking that encourage ourself and see the good in ourself and others. This results in our becoming more competent and brings harmony into our relationships.
