The Mid-Atlantic Dharma Celebration is an annual regional Kadampa Buddhist celebration in Baltimore that includes teachings, a blessing ceremony called an empowerment, and guided meditations.
An empowerment is a blissful guided meditation through which we receive powerful blessings that enrich our body, speech, and mind. This year, Kadam Morten will grant the empowerment of Buddha Maitreya and give teachings on Sustaining Love in Difficult Times.
Loving others is relatively easy when everything is going our way. However, almost every day we find ourselves facing situations that are unpleasant. Moreover, frequently others, even those we are feeling close to, don’t want to accommodate our wishes. Under these circumstances we can feel distressed and unappreciated, and so it becomes difficult to sustain our love for even our closest friends and family, much less strangers. Kadam Morten will explain how to sustain and even increase our love for others when we are in difficult times, which allows us to relax and maintain a peaceful, happy mind.
All Buddhas’ realization of loving kindness manifests as Buddha Maitreya. Through the power of his special blessings, we can develop the confidence to maintain a warm and friendly feeling towards everyone we meet. Since his function is to guide us to enlightenment, if we rely upon him with faith we will gain all the realizations of Kadam Lamrim, fulfilling our deepest wish for lasting happiness.
